MISSION

MISSION

CleanConscience has a four-part mission:

  • to reduce the huge quantity of waste soap and toiletries from the UK Hospitality Sector through recovery, redistribution and re-use;
  • to get soap and hygiene products into the hands of those that need it most;
  • to create volunteering opportunities, work placements, traineeships and employment opportunities for those on the margins of society; and
  • to partner with other organisations whose mission and vision is aligned with ours.

POVERTY IN THE UK

UK food banks, shelters and drop in centres have a high demand for toiletries for their users.

As an example, St Mungo’s Broadway, a charity working in London and the South East of England, serves 25,000 people a year and they have found that when they supply toiletries, and other home comforts, to people in crisis it lifts the spirits of those involved.

GLOBAL SANITATION

Across the globe 2.6 billion people lack adequate sanitation; it is estimated that, as a direct result 1.7 million children under the age of 5 die each year from pneumonia and diarrhoea worldwide. SOURCE: WHO – Ending preventable deaths from pneumonia and diarrhoea by 2025

Hand washing with soap can reduce these deaths by 60%. SOURCE: Global Public Private Partnership for Handwashing

Nearly 7 million people of working age in the UK are disabled or have a health condition. There has historically been a large gap between the numbers of disabled people employed compared with non-disabled people. The Government’s Disability Confident campaign, launched in July 2013, is driving an initiative to get more physically and learning disabled people into employment.
